Ecolodge stay in the Peruvian Amazon: Sandoval Lake wildlife, rainforest, and local encounters

Welcome to Puerto Maldonado and a 40-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River to the facilities of your ecolodge.
After a welcome with tropical flavors, you make your first contact with the jungle during an exploratory hike on the concession with your guide to discover medicinal plants and giant trees.
You then visit a traditional rubber tappers' camp to understand this historical activity and its extraction process. At nightfall, you set off on a nocturnal boat safari in search of caimans and the nocturnal wildlife inhabiting the riverbanks.

Heading to the Tambopata National Reserve. After a short boat ride, you begin a 3 km walk through lush vegetation to reach the majestic Sandoval Lake.
You board small rowboats to observe giant otters, caimans, and monkeys (howler, capuchin, squirrel).
After lunch at the lodge, you gain some altitude by climbing the canopy observation towers (up to 42 meters high) to admire tropical birds and enjoy the sunset over the treetops. You finish with a visit to a camp dedicated to the harvesting of Brazil nuts.

The morning is dedicated to discovering a 'chacra' (local farm) to identify and taste tropical fruits and native products grown naturally.
In the afternoon, you experience a unique cultural exchange by meeting a family from the Machiguenga ethnic group. You learn more about their ancestral customs and traditions through a demonstration of hunting techniques, a presentation of their crafts and clothing, as well as an explanation of the daily use of forest plants.

Early wake-up for a short walk leading to the collpa (clay lick).
There, you witness the colorful spectacle of dozens of parrots coming to ingest this mineral-rich earth, which is essential for their metabolism.
After breakfast, you return to Puerto Maldonado by boat. Before your transfer to the airport, you enjoy a visit to the traditional local market to appreciate the colors and flagship products of the Amazon region.
