Itinerary
After breakfast, your guide will take you on a hike through the primary forest. You will be able to observe mammals, monkeys, and a wide variety of birds and butterflies. Return to the lodge and, in the afternoon, lunch will be served on board during a 3-hour boat ride along the Tambopata River to Chuncho. Upon arrival at the clay lick, your guide will take you into the forest for an excursion. Overnight in a specially equipped camp.
Waking up at sunrise will allow you to enjoy the dawn before our visit to the Chuncho clay lick. At the Chuncho clay lick, you will witness a spectacular and lively gathering of parrots and macaws. Macaws come to the clay lick to consume minerals and salts with digestive properties that help neutralize toxins. On average, several hundred macaws and parrots visit the clay lick daily (blue-headed parrot, chirricles, maracaná, Bolivian macaw, red-and-green macaw and scarlet macaw).
After breakfast, you will set out in search of mammals (tapir, capybara, peccary, huangana, sloth, tayra…) and observe the wildlife encountered (spider monkey, squirrel monkey, tamarin, capuchin, howler monkey…). With a bit of luck, you may spot a jaguar.
Return to the lodge for lunch. In the evening, enjoy a boat excursion to observe caimans and capybaras and listen to the jungle’s symphony from the river.
After a restful night, the powerful call of the howler monkey will remind you, upon waking, that you are still in its territory and that it is time to depart. A delicious breakfast awaits you in our dining room before returning to Puerto Maldonado.
