Itinerary

Day 1 : Ollantaytambo – KM 104 - Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes

We will begin our journey early in the morning, from Ollantaytambo. We will first go to the train station to take the train to km 104, where we will begin our 11 km journey on foot.

Our first historical point is Chachabamba, this last one is an Inca archaeological site located on the road to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

Then we will walk for about 3 hours until we reach Wiñayhuayna, an impressive archaeological site with more than 40 agricultural terraces. Due to its location on top of a mountain, its entrance is exclusively reserved for hikers on the Inca Trail.

We will continue our hike until we reach Intipunku, a small complex of huts that looks like it was used as a control area. It is an excellent opportunity to take panoramic photos of the city of Machu Picchu. It is without doubt the best place to contemplate the majestic splendor of Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas.

Then we will begin to descend to reach Aguas Calientes, where we will be transferred to the hotel to settle down and spend the night.

Day 2 :Machu Picchu

Today we will take the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. The journey lasts 30mn. If you want it’s also posible to hike from the village to the inca citadel.

Machu Picchu rises to an altitude of 2,430 m in the middle of the tropical forest, an extraordinary location. It was undoubtedly one of the most marvelous urban creations of the apogee of the Inca empire. Its enormous walls, terraces and ramps seem to be cut naturally in continuous form in the rocky cliffs.

We will have a tour led by our local guide for about 2 hours, followed by free time so you can enjoy this wonder of the world independently.

After your visit you will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and the train to Ollantaytambo.
On leaving the station in Ollantaytambo we will take a shuttle bus back to Cusco.

As the departure of the Inca Trail 2D-1N is from Ollantaytambo, it is possible to combine this trek with all our tours in the Sacred Valley.

The most recommended option by the Escapate team is to leave for 5 days, doing first the Huchuy Qosqo trek for 3 days and then the Inca Trail for 2 days.
More information about Huchuy Qosqo in the following link: https://escapateperu.com/tour/trekhuchuy-qosqo-3d-2n/

For people interested it is also possible to do the Inca Trail on 4 days: https://escapateperu.com/tour/inca-trail-machu-picchu/
