Waqra Pukara

We'll pick you up at your hotel and drive south of Cusco, in the province of Acomayo, in the Pomacanchi district. After a 3-hour drive, our driver will drop us off at the starting point of our fabulous hike.

The Waqra Pukara archaeological complex can be reached via several trails. We'll set off from the heights of Sangarara and walk for around 3 hours across high-altitude plains, until we reach the impressive site of Waqra Pukara from the summit. We'll enjoy a spectacular panorama before slowly approaching to explore the site.

It's a physically demanding adventure, but the breathtaking panorama and spectacle that awaits you on arrival is well worth the effort. Perched high above the Apurimac Canyon, the fortress of Waqra Pukara has played a central role in the region's history. An astronomical observatory, a place of worship or the scene of decisive battles, you and your guide will discover the importance of this fascinating site in the local heritage.

Once the tour is over, we'll walk another 45 minutes to Santa Lucia, where our driver will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We'll arrive in the ancient capital of the Inca Empire at the end of the day, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel.
